Rude awakenings
Four O’Clock this morning, I had a nightmare. I had a strong feeling of dread and suddenly had to get out of wherever I was as it was extremely dangerous. It involved an electrical fire or explosion of some kind and it was imperative that I got out now. I crawled through an under-floor space and was surprised to find that the exit to the room was blocked by a frame of some kind, full of clothing on hangars. As I slipped back into wakefulness I was amazed to find myself trying to leave through the bedroom wardrobe…
I don’t have a problem with sleep walking but I have woken up bolt upright once or twice over the years, sometimes with a feeling of dread. The first time I was about 8 or 9 and had been to see a temporary zoo with my Parents in the Newcastle Old Town Hall which had become an exhibition space with the opening of the new Civic Centre, later to be known as the T Dan Smith Monument. At the Zoo, I had been frightened by a very angry baby elephant that had charged the steel fence when I was walking by and my sub-conscious had it chasing me all round the building later.
I’ve been heavily involved with an electrical power project and I suspect that my Sub-conscious is reminding me of the consequences if the Sparkies get it wrong!
