Take the pledge

Pledge furniture polishNO2ID are starting to ramp up the pressure on the Government.

“I solemnly and publicly promise that:

  • I shall not register for a national identity card
  • I shall not supply personal details or fingerprints to a National Identity Register
  • I shall not apply for any document or service if joining the National Identity Register is a condition of obtaining it
  • I shall not co-operate with any Identity and Passport Service interview concerning my identity.

I also promise by my example to encourage others to do the same.”

I’ve done my small bit to protest- I renewed my Passport not too long ago to avoid having to go to an interrogation centre & be fingerprinted when it would have actually run out in the next couple of years. I also bought a London Oyster Card recently (as cash journey prices are now punitive on the Underground) but have no intention of registering it. I’ve also Paypalled a Tenner to the fighting fund.

I don’t know which one will be the equivalent of Thatcher’s Poll Tax moment- the ID card, or the realisation that we English (and Wales/Scotland/NI) are no longer a Nation in the EUSSR of Regions. It will come in the next two years though.

I’ll put this up at my site tomorrow morning, Ian.

  2. If the government really tries to push through, it’s going to be a fascinating battle; the English desire to abide by the law versus our instinctive loathing of State control.

  3. I am amazed that this is not dead and buried, given the security breach with the CD. How could you ever trust the Government with this kind of information?

  4. Shades says:

    James, that would be good.

Womble & Colin, Governments have this knack of going through very strong denial before eventuallty capitulating. It was Blair who famously said he didn’t have a reverse gear.

  5. When my pp runs out I am going to get an Ital one., So James has convinced you?

  6. Shades says:

Welshcakes, it isn’t James swaying me, it is my experience of the IT industry that tells me that this will all go horribly wrong, even if it goes horribly right.

    It’s yet another EU directive.
It won’t be long before the English start their war of independence. We are learning to hate fast!!
