This afternoon, David and I had a bit of a drive round Morley hand delivering a number of Christmas Cards. A lot of houses go to town with their external Christmas lights (or should I say Xmas?) these days, and David described many of them as being “way over the top”.
Here is a short selection snapped en-route.
The most boggling lights we have seen are the Osborne Christmas lights as found at Walt Disney World these days (YouTube). Chez Grey is somewhat more low key…

Outdoor lights are only just becoming fashionable here. I
would like some but the electricity supply would probably
go kaput! Your lights are nice and subtle, Shades.

The more over the top, the more I like them. Some are very spectacular here, since I guess electricity is cheaper since we have hydro-generated power. I’m not so keen on the blow up Santas etc but we now have deer and reindeer figures which actually more their heads as part of displays.
I have been trying to photograph them at night with no success so far. I need a tripod for Christmas.

Is it me, or do you find that the number of taccy decorations is inversely proportional to the slummyness of the area?
I’m also sure that if I wander around the council estate near me at the minute I’ll trip over the power cables between the aforementioned overblown decorations and the nearest street light…

ASP- there is no causality between the quality of housing stock and the quantity of the tacky christmas decorations in Morley- there are over the top examples in both social and private housing.
There is probably a causality between the cackness of the display and the quality of thye occupants though, although it probably wouldn’t bear too close a scrutiny as some people probably just do it for a laugh.
