Parties need never run out of plonk again…

An interesting bit of free enterprise discovered from a flyer through the door today- booze on demand from a Mobile Offy. (An Off-License is a liquor store, the term being derived from “consumption off the premises”).

They sell booze, soft drinks, tabs (fags), snacks (various) and condoms. Their hours are 7pm to 5am every day except Sunday, when they don’t open until 11pm. (They promise soon to be 24 hours).

You can click through to visit the site. The terms make interesting reading- still a few quirks of the relaxed licensing laws. There was also an amusing typo in the flyer prices- they sell “bottled Larger” (corrected online).

I look forward to howls of protest from local Morley Councillor Robert Finnigan in the local press. After all, there is an election coming up…

I like the terms and conditions, have to say if anyone using this service is unlikely to be following the recommendation to drink in moderation.

The “excessively drunk” stipulation is interesting - I’m pretty sure that they are stretching the point a bit there since I reckon selling drink to anyone who is drunk is illegal.

Well, there is often someone at a party who is staying sober for some reason, be it because they are on medication, are driving later or they perhaps just don’t drink in the first place. I can see a role similar to “designated driver” here, a “designated buyer”.

Then the bansturbators will push for a law where party hosts are responsible for the conduct of their guests…
