Wadds was here
Morley has its own former theatre at risk, the 1911 New Pavilion. It closed as Puccinos Restaurant nearly three years ago and has stood at the south end of Queen street like a catering version of the Marie Celeste ever since, only half a day (and a window wash) away from re-opening.
However, in recent weeks, we have noticed some low level scratter deterioration of the place, with cracked panes in doors and gradually enlarging holes. Also, one of the side fire exits was looking increasingly warped and vulnerable.
Anyway, this week, the building has been made secure again, as can be seen by the photos (Taken at night whilst waiting for a Pizza).
When I used to live in Newcastle, a 24 hour glazier traded known as Wadds. If a shop window got broken, they used to board it up and stencil on signs saying “Wadds was here”. My mum & dad ran an offy and we had to call them out once. When they arrived, I was delighted to see that Their big van said “Wadds is here!” on it. They are part of a bigger group now but their social impact is acknowledged.
