David has suddenly decided to learn how to ride his bike, after a training wheel rebellion a few years ago. He is fine on the flat and downhill, but can’t cycle uphill. It doesn’t help that his bike doesn’t have any gears, of course!

I didn’t have a bike with gears until I was in my thirties. I hope it has brakes.

JMB, yes it has brakes. David found out the hard way that only using the front brake tips you into a bush. Sometimes a practical demonstration is worth a thousand words.
