I vaguely looked into becoming a Lighthouse keeper in my youth, even read a book on it. However, it seems that Trinity House were very good at putting the loners in the town lighthouses and the family men out in the back of beyond. Even back in the early 70s, it was a dying trade as automation was rolling out big time.

There has to be something very romantic, impractical and silly about living in a lighthouse. I suppose having to climb the stairs would keep you in shape.

well,I wouldn't be too sure about Mrs PJ, she's had a taste of local politics.

As for DD, I admire the sentiment absolutely. And if it brings it more to the fore, so much the better. I do wonder about his motive though, it would surely been better to be the next Home Secretary and made a stand....

He will have to keep the publicity going, (hope he doesn't use lime green leaflets) and it would have been great if Labour had stood against him, but as I said when he did it, cleft stick time for the socialists.

Out of it as in drunk?

As Tony Benn will agree, being a Tory isn't a condition for helping in H&H - for example I'm trying to arrange a visit with some Lib Dems and a couple of NO2ID campaigners.

Praguetory, I only know three Morley Tories and they are all out of it at present. (I'm not a Tory, despite what it says on Iain Dale's site).

JT- small rooms, but lovely high ceilings...

You seem to be enjoying yourself with non-political stuff, but I'm interested whether you and any fellow Morleians will be involved with Haltemprice & Howden. If so, maybe we can meet up?
