Not your ordinary zoo…

The Curraghs wildlife park on the Isle of Man doesn’t like to call itself a zoo as it is much more than that. Many of the areas are unenclosed (where the animals won’t escape or eat people) and it tries to take you “around the world in eighty minutes”. It is just as much a nature park as an animal one.

The day we went it was sporadic heavy showers interspersed with hot sunshine, so we sheltered at lunchtime and managed to see most things. A selection of photos are below.

Karen and David visited in 2000 when I was at the Frank Matcham Conference. It took Karen ages to find it, as the main entrance is right on the TT route and many of the roads were closed.

Their website is here.

Aha, a zoo, sort of. Always entertaining, well to me anyway. Funny to see a raccoon in a wild animal park. I can sit at my kitchen table and watch them dig up my lawn, the devils!

Karen commented that this was the first raccoon she had actually seen in the flesh.
