JMB, it is indeed something of a lowbrow sport but it is the "Rollerball" effect, giving people the opportunity to vent aggression harmlessly.

James, it is remarkable how much noise and reaction can be the outcome of often no physical contact whatsoever, all too obvious when the action happens close to you.

We saw pro wrestling in a holiday camp once when David was a nipper, a bizarre performance involving the smallest holiday camp rep flooring the biggest wrestler in a grudge match. One of the set piece routines in wrestling is for the two actorsXXXXXX wrestlers to leap over/under each other bouncing between the ropes. They had to be careful that they only did it East<->West and not North<->South otherwise they would have banged their heads on a rather low lighting truss.

One particularly funny bit was the tag wrestling. One wrestler was banging another’s head onto the corner post mat.

That's hilarious, of course. :)

Ive never understood the appeal of wrestling or boxing. It still gets an audience here on TV it seems. Probably more popular than boxing, a total reversal.
