Nearly finished that model…

Last Summer, we sent off for a weekly part work called Build a model solar system.

Today, parts 48-51 came and I have been assembling the base unit and motor drive. There is only one part left to receive (in four weeks time) but it is a critical one- it is the power supply to make the thing move!

The planets- & a couple of non-planets as well

Closer examination of the heavenly bodies shows something amiss. Is that blu-tak craftily soft-focussed where Saturn should be? Indeed, Saturn lost a moon as soon as I opened the pack (it was slightly bent and my efforts to straighten it immediately caused it to snap off). Saturn is heavier than Jupiter (due to the metal circular disk representing the rings) and before long, the tiny pin that fitted into the mounting pole sheared off.

Never fear, Saturn is on back order to make the Solar System hole again.

David says that once all of the magazines have arrived he will start looking at them. He doesent want to look before then as he might get frustrated at them not all being there. An interesting logical twist that.

Meanwhile, what does a model assembler do once his part series has dried up? Well those generous people at Eaglestar Publications are sending free parts one and two of Build a model earth, moon and sun orbiter. Yes, it is a loss leader for your very own Tellurion.

A Tellurion? What is one of those?

A tellurion (also spelled tellurian), is an instrument that depicts how day, night and the seasons are caused by the movement of the Earth on its axis and around the sun. It is similar to an orrery.

These snippets are from their website here, it is a mosaic and I couldn’t be bothered to get it laid out properly.
