I find this frustrating as well. Why do we need all the extra fees for standard rentals? The only thing I can think of is to market lower "rental rates" than was is really actual. I have come to expect it, but I don't understand how when you book in advance that they can't know that they are going to charge you a Frequent Flyer Fee. I also have a list of american companies that I refuse to do business with as well. Thrift Car Rental is my latest. Also, that Apconrecfee is charged in Detroit as well. If buy prepaid gas, the price that you are quoted is not include this fee that is charged on a percentage. I only noticed this because my initial quote seemed to be different than what I was charged and I was able to figure out that it was a Frequent Flyer fee for each day of rental.

Alas, the bits of paper have long been filed into oblivion.

It is interesting to note that Virgin Holidays no longer use Dollar, they are partnered with Alamo instead.

Out of interest, on your Dollar rental agreement does it say 'OPTIONAL COVERAGES YOU ACCEPTED' next to the various unexpected charges? I have just been going through my credit card statement and it seems have fallen victim to the same slippery practice. I accepted no optional coverages that I was aware of. Did either you or Virgin have any success getting the money back?

Incidentally, I travel to LA an lot and have used many car hire companies and have had no surprises in the past. I suppose Dollar are to be avoided at all costs.

Hello,

thanks for the information you provided on your experience at PIER 39. While as you say, you suffered no personal loss by the actions of the personnel, it clearly left you with a poor impression. Thanks for bringing it to our attention--the appropriate parties have already been notified. We certainly appreciate your recent visit and hope you will return on your next visit to San Francisco.
