Meow Wolf, the immersive art company known for its mind-bending installations, is giving its behind-the-scenes staff the spotlight they deserve. While the company's massive projects, like the 90,000-square-foot Denver location, are undoubtedly eye-catching, it's the intricate details and the people who bring them to life that truly make Meow Wolf special. This is where the internal team of craftspeople and workers steps in, and their contributions are about to be celebrated in a unique way.
The Convergence Station, a key part of the Denver location, is a dense and layered installation that showcases the company's artistic vision. It's the details within this installation that often go unnoticed by visitors, but they are what make the experience truly immersive. From the intricate miniatures to the neon-splashed abstract paintings, these smaller-scale works are the lifeblood of the larger installations.
Brandon Vargas, an artist liaison for Convergence Station, highlights the importance of these behind-the-scenes artists. He says, 'Any time I walk through an exhibit, I continually discover new things that surprise me. There’s nothing better than going on your lunch break after sending 100 emails and realizing, ‘Oh yeah, this is why we’re here.'”
To celebrate these artists, Meow Wolf is hosting an exhibition in its Galleri art gallery on the fourth floor. The exhibition, titled "The Demi-Decade Exhibition (Part 1)", features artwork by 13 on-site Art & Scenic, Tech, and Maintenance team members. These artists, including Talia Da Silva, Grayson Irby, Zee Howard, and Alex Gomez, are the unsung heroes who bring the company's vision to life.
This exhibition is a testament to the company's commitment to supporting up-and-coming artists. By showcasing their work, Meow Wolf is not only recognizing their talent but also providing an opportunity for visitors to appreciate the diverse paths an artist's career can take. As Vargas notes, "It’s really awesome to make sure we’re continually testing new aesthetics, and finding opportunities to work with artists outside of these time-intensive installations. We always want to get more new artists in here and represented for visitors, outside of the bigger installation."
The exhibition is included with general admission, which costs $42-$45 for adults and $36 for kids ages 4 to 12. It's a chance for visitors to not only enjoy the immersive experience of Meow Wolf but also to appreciate the hard work and creativity of the internal artists who make it all possible.
